Best time to visit China
The short answer: April–May and September–October suit almost every route on this site. The useful answer depends on where you're going — China spans climates from Harbin's ice winter to Hainan's tropics.

Season by season
Spring (Mar–May). Beijing and Xi'an warm up, Guilin turns misty-green, flowers everywhere. One of the two sweet spots — book the Classic China route for late April and you'll likely catch everything at its best.
Summer (Jun–Aug). Hot and humid in the east and south; Zhangjiajie and Guilin are lush, and it's peak season for families. Expect crowds at headline sights and higher prices. Pandas nap through the heat — go at opening.
Autumn (Sep–Oct). The consensus best season: clear skies in Beijing, golden rice terraces in Longji, comfortable temperatures nearly everywhere. Avoid the first week of October (National Day holiday) if you possibly can — domestic travel peaks hard.
Winter (Nov–Feb). Cold in the north, mild in the south. The Great Wall with frost and no queues is a connoisseur's choice; Harbin's ice festival runs late December to February. Chinese New Year (dates vary) is festive but very busy for transport.

Match the season to the tour
- Golden Triangle — best Apr–May, Sep–Oct; fine year-round.
- Classic China — Guilin rewards spring mist and autumn clarity.
- Pandas & Peaks — avoid peak-summer heat for the panda mornings; Sep–Oct ideal.
- Grand Tour — shoulder seasons make 14 days of moving around pleasant.
