Zhangjiajie Tours & Travel Guide
Three thousand quartzite pillars rising through cloud — the forest that floated onto screen as Pandora in Avatar.
Why visit Zhangjiajie
Nowhere else on Earth looks like this: a forest of stone spires, many taller than skyscrapers, wreathed in drifting mist. Film made it famous; standing on a cliff edge above a sea of pillars makes the fame feel understated.
Top sights
Yuanjiajie & Avatar Hallelujah Mountain
The pillar that inspired Pandora's floating mountains, plus the First Bridge Under Heaven.
Bailong Elevator
The world's tallest outdoor lift — 326 metres of cliff in 88 seconds.
Tianmen Mountain
A 7.5 km cable car, a glass skywalk on the cliff edge, and the natural arch of Tianmen Cave up 999 steps.
Grand Canyon glass bridge
430 metres long, 300 metres up. Walk it or watch it — both are experiences.
Sample itinerary — 3 days in Zhangjiajie
This is a sample itinerary, so you can see what each day actually looks like — the scenery, the meals and where you sleep. On a private trip the order and pace are adjusted to your dates; your confirmed day-by-day plan, with named hotels, comes with your quote.
- Day 1
Arrive in Wulingyuan
Travel in and settle in Wulingyuan town, by the park gate — waking up next to the pillars beats a city hotel an hour away. Early night: tomorrow starts with the mist.

- Day 2
Yuanjiajie & Tianzi Mountain — the Avatar pillars
The core park day, started early: pillar forests rising through drifting mist, the natural First Bridge Under Heaven, and the Hallelujah Mountain that floated into Avatar. Down by the Bailong Elevator — the world's tallest outdoor lift, 326 metres of cliff in 88 seconds.

- Day 3
Tianmen Mountain & the glass bridge — then departure
The 7.5 km cable car up Tianmen Mountain, its cliff-edge glass skywalk and the 999 steps beneath the great natural arch — plus the Grand Canyon glass bridge, 300 metres above the floor, if the weather plays along. Optional, obviously. Brave is not mandatory. Transfer out in the evening.

How many days?
Three: two for the forest park (Yuanjiajie + Tianzi), one for Tianmen and the glass bridge. It's the centrepiece of Pandas & Peaks and an easy add-on to the Grand Tour.
Getting there & around
Flights and high-speed trains link Zhangjiajie with Changsha, Chengdu, Xi'an and (seasonally) other hubs; routings change, so we confirm the cleanest connection at quoting. Sleep in Wulingyuan by the park gate.
Best time to visit
April–May and September–October. Mist is most likely after rain in spring — which is exactly when the pillars look most like the film.
Zhangjiajie FAQ
I'm scared of heights. Still worth it?
Yes — glass walkways are optional and short, and the core scenery is from solid viewpoints and lifts. Tell us and the route adapts.
How much walking is involved?
Park shuttles, cable cars and the elevator do the vertical work; expect plenty of flat viewpoint walking. Moderate fitness is plenty.
